Q. What Information do I include in my NILE module sites?

Answer

Each year a new NILE template is provided with set content areas. These should be used in the delivery of your course.

The areas below form part of the NILE standards, which are provided to improve the consistency of delivery across courses and are agreed by the institution annually after consultation with the student body.

For those tutors who perform a site copy from previous sites, we advise you check that there are no duplications or conflicting content. e.g. videos or text guidance.

 

About this module

This area may be used to welcome students to the module and outline the key content. Information on induction may also be provided within this area. Important information relating to the module, not covered elsewhere in the site, should be in this area (e.g. learning outcomes, timetables and deadlines). If there is a downloadable module guide then it should be in this area. We would like to encourage tutors to create their own introductory video. 


Announcements

Use the Announcements tool to send course reminders and updates to your students.

These are created with the familiar NILE content creation tool, and are both stored within this area as a rolling  blog, and are sent to students via the email. 

If you do not click the 'Send a copy of this announcement immediately' then your students' will receive the 'announcement' emails when NILE updates in the early hours of the morning. 

Please note the emails sent to students are text only and do not include images or multimedia.


Contacts

Create Contact items for the key people who may need to be contacted by students enrolled on to the module.

Notes (e.g. I will endeavour to answer emails within .... working days when I am not on annual leave. You will receive an automatic reply if I am away from work, with details of dates and who to contact in my absence).


Module Activities - Guidance

This area is for you to post the learning materials for your students.

We suggest you use folders to organise your content into clearly defined areas. It’s important to title and display these in meaningful way for your students. Consider using topic headings or categorise your material on a week by week basis, and ordering your material so that the newest material is at the top.

Assessment Information Guidance

We recommend that you create one folder per assessment.  Inside each of these folders place assessment briefs and assessment specific materials.

Assessment should support learning, provide opportunities for all students to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes, and be clearly aligned both to the stated learning outcomes and the learning and teaching strategy for the module.

Feedback & grades

There is no need for you to add any content to this area as students' feedback and grades are automatically pulled from your assessments once you release your grades.


External Examiner area

This area is to store materials you would like to make available to the External Examiner.
You will need to manually enrol your external examiner on to your site via 'Users and Groups'
