Q. Why is the NILE discussion board so awkward to use?

Unlike many discussion boards you might have used, NILE discussion boards have to be a little different because they are in an educational setting. This is to encourage meaningful engagement (which is why a 'like' isn't appropriate) or prevent 'lurking' (just copying what others say - the 'post before viewing other replies' option achieves that). Discussions can be graded or just monitored in the Grade Centre too.

It can be a little time consuming checking posts on a discussion forum - opening the module, going to the discussion board, opening each entry... - but there is a faster way!

If you use the drop down next to your name, top right, you'll see various options covering all the modules you are enrolled on. Click the button showing two wavy lines to view posts. Clicking an entry on the left will show you the post content and you can reply / quote and reply directly from there.

You can also subscribe to a discussion board by clicking the Subscribe, option in the forum, this will send you an update by email each time someone posts a reply.
