Q. How do I use Edublogs (MyPAD) to create a web site or blog?


Every student and member of staff has access to Edublogs (MyPad), a customised version of Wordpress hosted by Edublogs.


Login with your usual University /NILE login.


When you land on the welcome page, scroll down under the welcome above to see a link to the Edublogs User guides. These cover all aspects of using the tool and are both extensive and well presented.

You can also view tutorials on Wordpress on Lynda.com that will be relevant to creating content in Edublogs.


There are a few restrictions on Edublogs, such as there are pre-installed plugins and templates, but you can not manually add others. The core of Wordpress, however, is the same.


Because the level of access to content is managed by students or staff, content can be kept private, though full public access is available.

Manage class blogs

Your lecturer may set up a 'Class blog' which allows them to link a group of individual student sites and so you can either work collaboratively on a site, or submit your own site for assessment. If you are using a class blog your tutor will talk you through the process of linking your site.


Exporting portfolio sites.

Students should export their sites before completing their studies or they will lose access. Exported sites can be re-imported into a free Wordpress site.


Linking from NILE

Students can link from; journals, blogs or discussion boards or by submitting their URL to a submission. Staff may link from within a content area such as module activities, or on the left navigation.
