Q. BoB – how do I embed recordings into NILE?

Bob is a shared off-air recording service, which enriches teaching and learning by providing access over one million TV and radio programmes from more than 60 channels.

You can add both an individual clip or a playlist by following the steps below:

Adding an individual video.

There are two ways to link a BoB video clip into NILE, our suggested method is Option 1.

Option 1: Add a BoB WAYFless link:

  1. Go on to BoB, Search for an individual clip and then click the Share link:

    The Share button

  2. Using the mouse, copy the WAYFless Link.

     3. Go to NILE site, click "Build content" - "Web link".

4. Name your video clip, insert the WAYFless link as URL then "Submit". (Student clicks on the link, the video will open in a new window without need to login to BoB).

Option 2: To embed a video into NILE with the embed code

(If you use this method, please tell your students to refresh the NILE page after they login to BoB so they can view the video clip within their NILE site).

Copy individual clip:

Search for an individual clip and then click the Share link:

The Share button

Using the mouse, copy the Embed code.

Paste HTML code into NILE

Log into Blackboard and within 'module activities', create a new ‘Item’.

  • Type a meaningful title for the Item.
  • Using the ‘Toggle HTML mode’ button, Toggle HTML edit mode enter the HTML mode and paste the Embed code into Blackboard.
  • In NILE you will see a yellow box indicating the iframe (HTML) content
  • Click the ‘Update’ button.
  • Click the ‘Submit’ button to finish creating the Item.

The link to the BoB resource is now embedded into the Item.

Students will first see the Bob login screen:

Once students have logged into Bob, they will need to either refresh the page (CTRL +R - PC / CMD + R - Mac) or reload the page by navigating to the page again by clicking the left navigation buttons.

Students will then see the Bob video within NILE.

To add a BOB Playlist:

  1. Navigate to your Playlist.
  2. Click the box "Publicly available"
  3. Copy the URL to the clipboard
  4. Add the link into NILE as a Web link [BUILD CONTENT > WEB LINK]
