The Turnitin Paper Lookup Tool enables staff to access:

  • Turnitin submissions made by students who are enrolled on a NILE course but who have disappeared from the Turnitin assignment inbox;
  • Turnitin submissions in courses that are no longer on NILE.

When students have completed their studies with us their IT accounts are made unavailable. You can see whether a student's account is unavailable by looking at the class register in your NILE course, as these accounts will be marked with an 'Access not allowed' message and with a line through the student's profile picture:

Unavailable NILE accounts

Although you can see most of the activity for unavailable students in your NILE course, due to the way that Turnitin works it will not show unavailable students in the assignment inbox. As staff often need to see Turnitin assignments made by students who have completed their studies, Turnitin have developed a Paper Lookup Tool which provides the access needed. Information on where the Paper Lookup Tool is located and how to use it is provided in the links below.

Please note that it does not matter which NILE course you are in when using the Paper Lookup Tool, as the tool gives you access to all of the Turnitin assignment inboxes that you have ever had access to, including assignment inboxes in NILE courses which are no longer on NILE.
