Q. What type and size of file can I upload to NILE?
Staff and students at the University of Northampton can upload almost any type of file to NILE. However, there are a few restrictions that you will need to aware of.
Files that pose a security risk
Files with the following extensions cannot be uploaded to NILE because they pose a security risk:
.exe, .bat, .msi, .dll, .sh, .dmg
Very large files
Files larger than 1000MB (1GB) cannot be uploaded to NILE.
However, if you are submitting an assignment to Turnitin, the maximum file size is 40MB.
Video and audio files
Video and audio files can be uploaded to NILE, even if they are larger than 1000MB (1GB). In order to upload video and audio files into NILE you will first need to upload them to Kaltura, our specialist media streaming system. This will ensure excellent audio and video playback on desktops, laptops and mobile devices.
Kaltura accepts video and audio files with the following file extensions:
.mp4, .mov, .qt, .m4a, .m4v, .flv, .f4v, .avi, .asf, .wmv, .wma, .mpg, .m1v, .m2v, .mp3, .wav, .mkv, .ogg, .ogm, .ogv, .webm, .3gp, .rm, .arf, .mxf
