Private or Incognito web browsers allow you to privately use your web browser so that it doesn’t save any login details and doesn’t track browsing history, on top of other privacy settings enabled. Each web browser is slightly different with how to enable this.
Google Chrome
Firstly, open your Google Chrome web browser, the icon looks like so:
Once Google Chrome is open, click on the 3 dots at the top right of the window and then click on New Incognito Window:
You will know when you are in an Incognito window when it says Incognito with a little icon at the top right:
Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Shift + N on your keyboard to enable an Incognito window.
Microsoft Edge
Firstly, open Microsoft Edge web browser, the icon looks like so:
You then want to click the 3 dots at the top right of the window and then click on New InPrivate Window:
You will know when you are in a private window when it says InPrivate at the top right in blue:
Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Shift + N on your keyboard to enable an Incognito window.
Firefox
Firstly, open the Firefox web browser, the icon looks like so:
You will then need to click the 3 bars at the top right hand side of the Window and then click on New private window:
You will know when you are in a private window when it says Private browsing at the top right of the window with a purple icon:
Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Shift + P on your keyboard to enable the private window.
Safari
Firstly, open the Safari web browser, the icon should look like so:
Once Safari is open, click on File at the top left of the screen and then click New Private Window:
You will know when you are in a private window as there will be a banner at the top of Safari saying private browsing is enabled:
Alternatively, you can press Shift + Command + N on your keyboard to open a private window.
