This guide will be going through how UON staff members can enroll their personal Android devices on Intune Company Portal as part of new security regulations.
This is required for everyone who has their UON staff account signed into any installed application such as, but not limited to: Microsoft Teams, Outlook, OneDrive and the native mail client. This also includes any web versions of the mentioned applications.
Setting up Company Portal
1) Open the Play Store on your phone and then search for 'Intune Company Portal' and tap on 'Install'
2) Open the app and sign in using your UON email address and then complete the MFA prompt when requested
3) Click 'Begin' to start the process
4) Read the privacy settings then tap on 'Continue'
5) It will then start setting up your work profile. Wait for this to finish setting up
6) Click on 'Agree' to set up the profile and then wait for it to be created
7) Once completed, click on 'Next' and then 'Continue'. It will then start registering your device
8) Click on 'Continue' once it has finished registering
9) Click on 'Done' to complete the set up
Password requirements
If you do not have a PIN/password set up on your device, you will be asked to create one in the next step. The requirements for this are:
- PIN need to be at least 8 digits
- Repeating (11111111) or ordered sequences (12345678) are blocked
- Password needs to be at least 6 characters
- Special characters are not required, but advised
If your device already has a PIN/password that meets these requirements, you will not see the next steps so please skip steps 10 and 11.
10) If you get the following screen come up, click on 'Resolve' to set up a PIN/password that meets the above requirements
11) Once set up, click on 'Confirm device settings' to complete the set up
Once you have finished the set up, please give it up to 10 minutes for the apps to be installed
Note: IT does not have access to reset your PIN/password on your personal device so please choose something you will remember
How to use Company Portal
Once your device has fully enrolled, go to the apps page and then at the bottom of the page it will add a 'Work' tab:
In your work profile you will have separate apps and a separate Play Store, where you can download Office 365 apps:
Outlook and Teams will be installed automatically, but other apps can be found in the store and installed if required.
You are also able to disable any work notifications out side of work hours by swiping down on your phone and look for the briefcase icon. Click it to turn the work profile off:
Removing Company Portal
If you device that you no longer want to access your work apps on your personal device, you can remove the work profile at any time and add it back at a later date if you change your mind.
Open the Company Portal app and select the menu in the top left-hand corner
then select 'Remove Company Portal'. This will take a few minutes to remove the work profile.
Additional information
If you had office 365 apps installed prior to registering your phone in Intune you will no longer be able to access UON accounts through these apps, either uninstall these apps from your personal profile or if you use them with other accounts ensure you remove your UON account details.
Attempting to access UON accounts via apps in your personal profile will result in the pop up asking you to download Company Portal. Only the applications in the work profile are allowed.
Also, if you had your email set up in your native mail client you should now remove the account from there and access your email through the Outlook app in the work profile
