How do the DSA changes affect me?

If you're a student in need of Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) support, here's what you need to know about the DSA Reform:

  • New students will apply to SFE or SFW in the same way and their eligibility will be assessed and confirmed by SFE / SFW
  • You can apply for this online
  • Once your evidence and application has been assessed by SFE / SFW, they will assign you to one of the new suppliers, Study Tech or Capita.  Which supplier you are assigned to will depend on your postcode
  • You will then have a single point-of-contact for your needs assessment, assistive technology and training requirements
  • You can choose between remote (online) or face-to-face needs assessments and you can request to include a family member in the assessment if you would like someone to support you
  • The supplier will be responsible for the installation, set-up and familiarisation of your equipment and software and any training required
  • The supplier will contact you to arrange the delivery and installation of your assistive technology and arrange any training
  • If you have been awarded any 1:1 specialist support, such as mentoring or study skills, please contact ASSIST@northampton.ac.uk for guidance on how to arrange this.

I already have a DSA award but I need some extra help or to have my award updated – what do I have to do?

If you are already receiving DSA or if you were previously assessed by the Needs Assessment Centre (NAC) Northampton and require a change to your DSA award or a Needs Assessment Review appointment, please reach out to the DSA Team at Student Finance:
