A research proposal is a detailed plan that outlines what you intend to study, why it’s significant, and how you will conduct the research. You will be asked to provide a research proposal when applying for a self-proposed MPhil or PhD project.

The purpose of your research proposal is so that the University can see that you have a realistic idea about what is involved in studying for a research degree, can judge whether the topic is feasible for a research degree, and so that we can be sure that we have staff within the University who will be able to supervise the topic you want to research.
