A PhD by Published Works allows individuals with a substantial body of published work to consolidate their research into a PhD. Unlike a conventional PhD, where a candidate is expected to undertake a new research project, a PhD by Published Works awards a doctoral degree based on the submission of a portfolio of existing peer-reviewed work that demonstrates original research at PhD level.

This portfolio might include: journal articles, academic papers, chapters in scholarly books, monographs, creative practice, artefacts, or curatorial production. The published works should contribute to a single research theme in a particular field.

The PhD by Published Works pathway is primarily designed for mid-career researchers who have published widely during their academic careers but haven’t had the opportunity to pursue the standard research path leading to a PhD.

If you have existing publications or a portfolio of scholarly work, this option might be suitable for you.
