Cache and cookies are helpful little nuggets of information that help you to log into systems but, when they are out of date, they can stop you from logging in to University systems. They can especially be a problem if your also use your device for work, or share it with someone else. Clearing your cache and cookies is a simple process that can make a big difference.

For example if you are trying to use NELSON and getting a message saying "The information you’re about to submit is not secure”, you may need to clear your cache and cookies. This simple step is often enough to reset your stored information and allow you to log in.

We have some instructions available to help you, depending on which browser you are using. If you use more than one browser, you may have to do this for each one:

If you clear your cache and cookies and are still having problems we have guidance on further steps you can take. It is aimed at using NELSON but following the steps should help with all University systems.

I have tried this and I am still having problems

You can also use an incognito window in your browser. This will allow you to log into a system without cookies.

The next step will be to contact IT Services, who are happy to help:

  • Mondays to Thursdays 8.30am to 5pm

  • Fridays 10am to 5pm.

You need to collect a paper ticket from the kiosk, and wait for your number to be called. You can wait in IT's service area, behind the glass screens to the right of the Student Information Desk.
