If you are applying for a self-proposed PhD or MPhil, you will be asked to provide the following documents with your application: 

  • personal statement
  • an 1000 word research proposal – guidance notes on writing a research proposal can be found on our website
  • two references – please note that your referees cannot be members of your potential supervisory team
  • photocopies or scans of your undergraduate degree certificate and transcript
  • photocopies or scans of your Masters degree certificate and transcript
  • a copy of your in date passport
  • evidence of English language ability (if English is not the first language)
  • change of name document, if your application and certificates are in different names
  • if you are transferring from another institutions, you should also provide a statement about why you want to transfer to the University of Northampton.

These documents can be uploaded with your application, via the Application Portal, or emailed to pgradmissions@northampton.ac.uk
