Guidance for students taking part in AI conversations
When using the AI conversation tool in NILE please note the following:
• Anonymity: AI conversations are not anonymous. The full transcript of each AI conversation will be available to staff teaching on your module(s) immediately upon submission of the conversation.
• Privacy & Personal Data: Your contributions to AI conversations are processed by Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service. Although Azure OpenAI does not use your contributions for the (re)training of the large language model, it is still recommended that you do not include sensitive personal or confidential information in your AI conversation responses.
• Bias, Discrimination, and Errors: AI systems can replicate and amplify human biases, including those related to gender, race, and age. They can also present false information as being true, which is often referred to as an 'AI hallucination'. In short, AI systems are not perfect and are capable of making mistakes and of discriminatory thinking. When taking part in an AI conversation (or engaging in any other activity with AI, including using AI to generate images and videos, etc.), be aware of these limitations, use your judgement, and don't assume that AI will get things right all of the time.
Reporting concerns
If you take part in an AI conversation and have any concerns about the responses of the AI persona, you can report these to: learntech@northampton.ac.uk
