Who needs to complete the Consent Matters course?

The Consent Matters course is mandatory for new students. This means that all students who started at the University of Northampton during or after September 2025 should complete the course. If you began your studies with us before September 2025 you will not have access to the course. If you do not have access to the course it is because you do not need to complete it.

Where is the Consent Matters course?

The Consent Matters course can be found in NILE under the Organisations tab.

Consent Matters

How does the course work?

There are three parts to the course:

  1. Thinking about consent
  2. Communication skills and relationships
  3. Looking out for others

Each part of the course consists of an e-learning package, which teaches you what you need to know, and a quiz, which assesses your understanding of the subject. You have to progress through the e-learning packages and quizzes in order. Once you have completed the first e-learning package you'll see that the first quiz becomes available. Then, once you've scored above 80% on the first quiz, the second e-learning package becomes available, and so on and so forth.

What mark do I need to pass the course?

You need to obtain a mark of 80% or more in each of the three quizzes to pass the course. However, you can take each quiz as many times as you want. If your mark for a quiz is below 80% the next part of the course will remain locked.

How will I know if I have passed the course?

You will be able to see your progress through the course. Once you have passed everything all three areas of the course will be marked as complete, and you will see the 'Congratulations! Consent Matters Course Complete' message.

If you select the Gradebook, you can also see you quiz scores and your overall score for the course. If 'Current Mark' shows 'Pass' then this also shows that you have passed the course.

Who can I contact if I have any more questions about the course?

You are welcome to email consent.matters@northampton.ac.uk with any questions.
