Academic English workshops are online. The technology we use is called Class Collaborate. If you have not used Collaborate before, please follow the steps below before you join your first workshop. If you have used Collaborate before, please review the steps for troubleshooting if you experience any technical difficulties.
Before you join
You will need:
- Computer / Laptop, (preferable) or smartphone / tablet
- Headphones or ear buds with microphone
- Fast and stable internet connection.
We recommend you use the Google Chrome browser but you can check to see which other browsers are compatible. You should also check your browser is up-to-date. You may be using a recommended browser, but you do need to make sure it’s on the newest version.
Joining the workshop
The Collaborate room will open 15 minutes before the start time. Make sure you join early to test your connection and sound.
Best practices for best experience
- Use a hard-wired internet connection - if you’re able to use a cable from your internet router to your computer this will improve the connection. This is a good option if you have slow or unstable wifi
- Close other programs - close all other applications, tabs and windows that you’re not using
- Limited video use - only turn on the webcam if you’re asked to do so
- Use headphones or earbuds - you will find it easier to hear your teacher if you wear headphones or earbuds
- Disable Adblockers - browser Adblockers can turn off your audio and video and can cause buttons to not show up.
