Cloudflare is a Zero Trust Network solution that is replacing Citrix. Cloudflare provides staff with a secure trusted network to access all their applications wherever they are located whether they are on-site or off-site.
What do staff need to do to install Cloudflare?
We have a guide available to help you install Cloudflare:
What if my managed University device is a MacBook?
All University MacBook users should already have had Cloudflare installed remotely. If you don’t have access to Cloudflare on your MacBook, please log a ticket with IT Services through the self-service portal. Please include the word Cloudflare in the summary of your ticket and provide the asset tag of your device as this will help IT Services to deal with your issue.
How will staff know if Cloudflare has been installed?
Within the Windows Apps drawer on your taskbar there will be an orange cloud icon.
How do staff access Cloudflare?
You will be automatically connected as part of the standard login process. Cloudflare runs in the background and is “Always On”, so no action is necessary.
Is there a difference when On Campus or Off Campus?
There is no difference at all. Because Cloudflare is always on, it is not dependent on where you are. Access to applications will be the same.
Why won’t my application open?
It may be that you were not identified as a user of this application. Permissions can be provided by the IT Services team.
Why won’t a website open?
The likely cause of this is our Web Filtering tool which may block websites that are not secure (http:/). If a secure website is available (https:/) use that address. If there is no secure address this will need to be investigated by IT Services to provide access.
Can I use Cloudflare on my own personal device?
No, Cloudflare is only available on University managed devices. This is to ensure access to our network can be managed and kept secure.
Will Cloudflare cause my applications to run slow?
No, latency is at a minimum and staff should not experience any lag during login or use.
Can I still use Citrix?
No, Citrix is no longer be available. Cloudflare is a replacement for Citrix.
Will external suppliers with Citrix be able to access Cloudflare?
Yes, if they have a justified requirement to access. Please contact the IT team.
Will I still be able to use my own device including mobile phone, tablets to access outlook and other Microsoft products?
Yes, access will still be available. Cloudflare will not impact your access rights to Office 365.
How will Associate Lecturers, using their own devices, access U4BW?
From 15th February 2023, if you are an Associate Lecturer you will be able to log in and use U4BW on your personal device, in the same way that you can when you are on campus. You do not need to do anything; IT Services will be managing everything for you. If you do have any problems at all, please contact the team.
