You can request to restart your studies either on the same or a different programme once during your period of study. Restarting studies means that any grades that you have achieved previously will not be carried forward.
Requesting to restart your course can now be done in the SRS Student Portal. There is a written guide on how to apply to restart your course and there is a written and video guide to using the SRS Student Portal.
It is important to be aware that once a restart is approved it is normally expected you stop studying and then return at the start of the next academic year, which means that any funding from Student Finance England (or other providers) will stop and you will no longer be permitted to live in Halls of Residence. Because of this it is recommended that you make an appointment with:
- the Student Support and Advice Team to discuss study implications. You can email them at studentsupportofficers@northampton.ac.uk or book an appointment or attend a drop-in, and
- with the Student Financial Guidance Team who have drop-ins and appointments, or you can email them at money@northampton.ac.uk to discuss funding.
If you are an International Student then restarting will also have some implications for your student visa, so you will need to speak to the International Student Support Team who have drop-ins and appointments or you can email them at iss@northampton.ac.uk to discuss this.
Usually we would not permit a restart after the deadline has passed, or in Year 2 and Year 3 of undergraduate study, unless your mitigating circumstances are severe enough to explain a lack of engagement with study.
To speak to somebody about restarting, please contact the Student Support and Advice Team at studentsupportofficers@northampton.ac.uk or call 01604 892600
