First things first—don’t panic! Your video content is safe and sound and the issue is easy to fix.
What Happened to My Video?
Over the last year, some important maintenance work has taken place with our Kaltura video server, which involved moving all of the university’s video content from the U.S. to the EU. It was a big move, but rest assured, your content made it safely across the Atlantic. While we repaired most of the video links so they pointed to their new EU location at mymedia.northampton.ac.uk, a few videos were missed in the process and will still be pointing to video.northampton. If your video isn’t playing, it’s likely one of those we missed. Luckily, it’s just a matter of swapping out the link for a new one.
How Do I Fix It?
Here are your options for getting your video back up and running:
1. Kaltura Embed Option
If your video is embedded in a NILE module, you can add it again by searching for it using the Kaltura plug-in, adding it to your site and then deleting the broken link. Simple and quick—job done! Here's the guide, in case you need it.
2. Public URL Option
If you made your video Public and shared a link to your video - either in NILE or on another platform - you can search for the video at mymedia.northampton.ac.uk and use the Share option to get the new EU link. Delete the broken link and you're go to go.
3. Ask a Learning Technologist
If the above options sound too tricky or you run into issues, you can always ask for help from your subject learning technologist.
A Temporary Hassle for Long-Term Security
Yes, it’s a bit of extra work, especially at a time when things are already hectic. But this migration was crucial for improving our long-term data security. The good news? Once this is done, you won’t have to worry about it again in the future. From now on, copying your content from year to year will be as smooth as usual.
Thank you for your patience.
