How do I know if there are fines or fees on my account?
You can access your library account through NELSON. You will see the items you have on loan, any requests and also any fines and fees. There is a video showing how to log in on the front page of NELSON and we also have some written instructions. When you have logged in, click on your name or student number in the top right corner and click on ‘My Account’
There is a fine and fees tab. If there are monies owed on your account, you will see a red exclamation mark next to the tab. Clicking on the tab will give you full details
Why are there fines and fees on my account?
The tab will give you the details about why the money has been added to your account. Sometimes this is an automatic action by NELSON.
There are few circumstances when you will see a fine or fee on your account:
- Laptops that are returned to the laptop cabinet late are fined at £1 for each hours they are late
- You have lost or damaged a book
- You have an item that another student has requested and you have not returned it on the due date
- You have an item on your account that is 28 days late.
We are always happy to talk to you about any of these, don't worry about talking to us.
