Risk of exposure to asbestos on University premises or from the release of fibres into the environment.

Asbestos is only found in limited quantities in two locations on University property, such as Boughton Green (Scholars Green) and the Development Hub.

All forms of Asbestos are dangerous but blue (crocidolite) and brown (amosite) asbestos are known to be more dangerous than white (chrysotile) asbestos. Any material containing one or more of these fibrous silicates at more than trace amounts falls within this definition.

There is an Asbestos Management Policy available for you to read.

The University uses approved licensed contractors to inspect and monitor locations with asbestos and acts proactively to ensure exposure risks are prevented and mitigated.

Asbestos locations are inspected annually with reports available to nominated contacts on the contractor web portal.

There is also a homepage that lists the range of Health and Safety risks identified as relevant to the University's activities and facilities, together with information on the University's policies and arrangements on how these risks are to be managed and controlled.
