Who should undertake a Risk Assessment?

Only competent staff should conduct Risk Assessments. They must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the process, the hazard and risk, and the activity that forms the risk.

Ideally, the person with the knowledge to identify the risks involved and implement the control measures should be the one to complete the Risk Assessment.

The Risk Assessment findings should be communicated to those affected by it.

Who can help me with a Risk Assessment?

Anyone who has knowledge of the activity or risks can support you in writing the Risk Assessment. The Safety Team can also assist, guide and support you in completing your Risk Assessment. You can contact the team at safety@northampton.ac.uk

Who should approve the Risk Assessment?

Your line manager should approve the risk assessment before it is sent to the Safety Team. The Safety Team can review it but ultimately the approval will come from your line manager or the Faculty Manager.
