A video showing how to set your PIN, borrow and return a laptop
Where can I set my PIN?
The only one reason you will need your PIN is to borrow a laptop from a laptop cabinet. You can now change your PIN inside your library account in NELSON.
How do I log in to my library account?
Navigate to NELSON and, in the top right-hand corner you will see the login button
You will then see two login options. If you are a student or member of staff using the ‘University login’ click the link and it will log you in.
You will then be logged in and the login button will have changed to your name or student / staff number.
Where will I find my PIN now?
Go to your name or student number in the top right and click the arrow. Navigate to ‘My Account’ and the ‘Personal Details’ tab.
Click ‘Change my PIN’ (if using a phone you may need to scroll to see this option) and type your new 4-digit PIN in the box. Make it a number that you will remember and do not start it with a 0. For example, 2512 not 0251. Make sure you click save.
You can now go to a laptop cabinet and borrow a laptop.
I am an existing student or staff member, didn’t getting and using a PIN used to be different?
Yes it did. IT Services used to provide a portal for checking or changing your PIN, and it used to be needed to access your library account. NELSON now holds your PIN information and you can change it in your library account. It also means that the only reason you will need a PIN is to borrow a laptop from a laptop cabinet. Your old PIN will not be carried over into the new system, you will need to set a new one before you can borrow a laptop.
Where can I borrow a laptop?
There are laptop cabinets on several floors in the Learning Hub; on the ground floor through the glass doors near SID, on the 2nd floor near the library help desk, on the 3rd floor near the book borrowing machine and on the 4th floor near the computer rooms. The staff laptop cabinet is on the ground floor of the Creative Hub.
You cannot save onto the laptop - you must save your work to your OneDrive. We have a guide available that explains how to use OneDrive to make your work safe and accessible to you. OneDrive is a free facility for students and staff.
