Tutorials are free one to one sessions that are offered to all students, that you book through our online booking system. They can be attended in-person or online and provide free guidance on academic skills, finding information, evaluating sources, and more. Our teams offer tutorials on a wide range of academic topics.
Booking a tutorial
Here is a video showing how to book a tutorial, with written instructions below:
To book a tutorial visit the tutorials page where you can select where you would like the tutorial to be, in-person at Waterside or online on Microsoft Teams.
You can then chose what you want to talk about. You will then be able to select the tutor (or choose 'no preference' to see all available appointments), then select a date and time for an available tutorial.
You will then be asked to log in with your student number and University password. Fill in the rest of your details and press 'confirm appointment' to book the tutorial. You will then receive an email with all the details on, and a Microsoft Teams link if you chose the online tutorial option. There will be a calendar attachment on the email that you can use to put your tutorial in your calendar.
We have a help guide available for booking tutorials, including attending via Microsoft Teams.
We also have a guide for what to expect before, during and after your tutorial.

Drop-in sessions
You may be interested in a drop-in session, these are shorter sessions than a tutorial (around 10 minutes), these are ideal if you have a quick question or wanted to check something. There is no need to book in advance, you can just show up during the drop-in session times either in-person or online. Drop-in sessions run every week day in term time.
