Most items can be renewed up to 15 times, but there are a few reasons you might not be able to renew:

  • your item is seven days or more overdue
  • your item has been renewed 15 times you will need to return it. If you still need the resource, speak with a member of library staff and they can help you return and borrow it again
  • if your item that have been requested by other users, these will be listed as ‘Reserved’ on your account. Please remember to return ‘reserved’ items on time as you will be charged £1 per day if they are overdue
  • if you owe more than £20 you will not be able to borrow any new items from stock, or renew anything that you have on loan.

How will I know which one of these is the reason I can't renew?

When you are in NELSON checking the items on your account, if you run your curser over the lock icon, or touch it with your finger on a phone or other device, it will tell you the reason you can't renew:

For this entry, a grey box has popped out saying: Cannot renew this item. Time frame when loan renewal is allowed is 6 days before due date

In this entry you will also see that there is a maximum renewal date and this may be a date in the near future if someone else has reserved the item. In that case, no matter how long the loan would be normally, it will change to a one week loan that you will not be able to renew.

I want to return my item
